Beautiful chiming sounds resonated from our chapel last Sunday, April 22. Our Residents, families and staff were treated to a visit by the St. Louis Archdiocesan Handbell Choir. This world-famous group performed a free concert in our chapel which was welcomed and enjoyed by all. The concert featured classical works transcribed for handbells, hymns arranged for handbells, and other original handbell compositions.
The Archdiocesan Handbell Choir is comprised of 12 members from various parishes throughout the Archdiocese of St. Louis. They gather at the Cathedral Basilica Saint Louis for their regular rehearsals. The choir is directed by Burnell Hackman who performed an organ recital for us last year. This handbell performance was part of a new initiative of the choir to perform around the Archdiocese and outside their usual Cathedral setting.
The choir played for the 1999 Papal Visit of Pope John Paul II, and recently has performed at Cathedral Concerts, Christmas at the Cathedral, and various parishes.
