Throughout the month of December, Residents enjoyed many Christmas celebrations. In addition to each floor having their own party, a Christmas play was performed on December 19 and a Christmas party for the whole Home held on December 23.
The Christmas play was a product of France, originally written in French by our American Sister Joseph when she was stationed there. An amusing play about characters whom you might see in a crèche scene surrounding the Holy Family, Residents and employees were cast in roles such as a miller, young couple in love, shepherd, cow, donkey, dog and many more. At the end of the play, Sister Paul presented our new Mother Superior, Mother Gonzague, to all in attendance. A reception was held, and every guest received a little chirping cardinal bird to attach to their Christmas trees as a gift.
The Residents’ Christmas Party was also a success with an annual visit from Santa Claus. Santa called out the names of each Resident and volunteers helped to distribute the personalized gifts. He also took photos with the Residents and gave out candy canes.
The party ended with a special performance by Sister Paul, our administrator, who sang a comedic rendition of “The Twelve Days of Christmas”, complete with silly gestures. After a prayer of thanksgiving from Mother Gonzague, the party continued with Christmas cookies and music.
