On the afternoon of February 26, our entire Residence celebrated a very special and unique occasion – Resident Margaret Riek as our most senior Resident of 26 years! Our auditorium was filled with music with great standards performed by Michael Farmer, laughter, food, drink and cake as a real party atmosphere broke through our winter doldrums. Margaret had been a volunteer at our Home since 1970, running the monthly birthday parties, organizing parishes to donate cakes, and running errands for the Little Sisters. Her husband also lived at our Home until his death in 1992. At 92 years of age, Margaret enjoys music, outings, parties, reading history and novels, reading the daily newspaper, and having an occasional glass of wine. When asked about her favorite foods, Margaret singled out peach pie and fudge. Margaret was completely surprised when she opened up her gift at the head table and found a large bottle of wine. The celebration went beyond our time limit, and everyone had an opportunity to congratulate Margaret and share in the joy of the occasion.
