Our home has had a rebirth of its ceramics activities through the help of two artist volunteers – Karah Leibovich and Jim Daly. Both are students at St. Louis Community College-Meramec in the Ceramics Department and co-teachers with our Residents in our Activities Room. Karah and Jim volunteer their services every other Wednesday afternoon. The class has been meeting since last summer. Sr. Alphonsine had been the coordinator of ceramics in the past. Karah and Jim picked up the slack after Sister was reassigned to another home. The Residents are currently making pots and figurines. We’re told that Resident Geraldine Meinhardt has taken on the role of firing the kiln and that she has become an excellent potter and artist! Others involved in ceramics projects are Bob Hussman, Oralynn Allen, and Marion Baker. Bob’s latest creation is a ceramic basket similar to the one often pictured with Saint Jeanne Jugan. Everyone is sure she is watching over their work!
