This year marked the 14th year of our annual Ecumenical Service with the pastors and members of El Bethel Baptist Church. The service was initiated as a prayer response to the attack on September 11, 2001. It is an opportunity to celebrate and pray for Christian Unity and renew our friendship. The service took place in our chapel with the Little Sisters, residents and staff in attendance.
Rev. White and Rev. Randolph led the service with our chaplain, Father Jim Beegan. Resident Father Martin Mannion was also in attendance. Resident Laura Howard is a member of this church community, and members of El Bethel always come and lead us in various African-American traditional hymns, accompanied by hand clapping, foot stomping, swaying and lots of smiles.
This year we were also blessed with the singing and keyboard playing of resident John Fortson. After the service there was time for fellowship as everyone gathered in the Senior Center dining room for refreshments and conversation. It is one of our best prayerful traditions here at the home and is anticipated each winter.
